The Montana Financial Educators Council’s mission is rooted in providing people with the knowledge and guidance they need to foster greater financial well-being.

To this end, we provide complimentary resources, advocacy campaigns, and local personal support to build scalable financial wellness initiatives throughout Montana.

Strengthening Montana with Sustainable Economic Empowerment Programming

The mission of the Montana Financial Educators Council℠ is to build sustainable, scalable economic empowerment programs that have a real impact on people’s lives at the community level. To accomplishing this mission, we focus on these 3 Pillars:

Pillar 1: Increase Access & Develop Sustainable Financial Education Programming.

Organizations – We provide resources, training, personnel, and support to build scalable financial wellness programming.

Individuals & Families – Resources and courses are provided for those seeking to improve their own finances and/or teach their kids about money.

Pillar 2: Raise Awareness for Economic Empowerment through Financial Education.

Advocacy Promotion Campaigns – We promote the adoption of financial literacy into schools, getting families involved in teaching kids about money, and encouraging individuals to improve their knowledge.

Local Financial Education Data – Conducting and curating Montana-specific personal finance research to share with stakeholders across the education and media sectors.

Pillar 3: Develop Relationships to Deploy and Sustain Community Financial Wellness.

Combat Financial Illiteracy – This is a crucial moment for our country and its citizens. And financial literacy is the key to addressing one of this country’s top crises.

Montana Financial Literacy

Montana – the Treasure State – promotes Montana financial literacy by helping its citizens and organizations gain access to information and resources. The Montana financial literacy collaborative is led by the Montana Financial Educators Council℠. Across Montana, financial literacy is being increased as part of a nationwide effort that provides resources to make individual financial capabilities and community economies stronger.

Montana Financial Literacy Legislation & Educational Stats

The sparsely-populated state of Montana, reports the Common Core of Data (U.S. Department of Education, 2014-2015), falls far below the national average in terms of numbers of schools, students, and certified teachers across the state: 824 schools (1,972 U.S. average); 144,532 students (986,521 U.S. average); and 10,234 teachers (61,418 U.S. average). In terms of student-to-teacher ratio, however, Montana is doing better than the national average at 14.12 (16.06 U.S. average).

To date, there is no legislation related to financial education in public schools being considered or introduced in the Treasure State, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

About the Montana Financial Educators Council℠

The Montana Financial Educators Council℠ is a campaign created in 2017 to build community efforts progressing toward mutual goals for spreading financial literacy. The Montana Financial Educators Council℠ initiative is a piece of a more comprehensive movement led by the National Financial Educators Council® (NFEC®).
